On June 29, the groundbreaking ceremonies for the Indonesia Nickel Resource and Battery Industry Chain Project — jointly invested and developed by a consortium comprising Puqin Times (CBL, a subsidiary of Brunp Recycling, a CATL subsidiary), Indonesian state-owned miner ANTAM, and Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) — were held simultaneously at Karawang Industrial Park (main venue), West Java and BULI Industrial Park, East Halmahera Regency, North Maluku (branch venue).
With a total planned investment of nearly USD 6 billion (approx. RMB 42.9 billion) in the future, the project is designed to produce batteries to support 200,000 to 300,000 electric vehicles annually, and will further expand into the energy storage field.

Leaders from China and Indonesia jointly launched the project's groundbreaking ceremony
At the main venue in Karawang, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Indonesia, Wang Lutong, Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Indonesian Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir, as well as Li Ping (Co-founder and Vice Chairman of CATL), Li Changdong (Chairman of Brunp Recycling), and Zhai Feng, Cai Yong, Yu Haijun (Vice Presidents of Brunp Recycling), among others, attended and witnessed the ceremony.

Li Changdong, Chairman of Brunp Recycling, introduced the industry chain project to Wang Lutong, Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia.
At the branch venue in North Maluku Province, the groundbreaking of the project was presided over by Yulliot Tanjung, Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia. Shirley Chai Renzhen, Governor of North Maluku Province, Ubaid Yakub, Regent of East Halmahera Regency, and representatives of the project's shareholders — including Tang Honghui, Director of HK CBL;I. Dewa Bagus Wirantaya, Business Development Director of ANTAM; and Jia Luping, Chairman of FHT — participated in the event.

The project has a total planned land area of over 2,000 hectares, covering projects such as nickel mining and smelting, battery material manufacturing, and battery recycling in East Halmahera, North Maluku Province, as well as a battery manufacturing project in Karawang, West Java Province. Among them, the first phase of the Karawang Battery Factory is designed with a production capacity of 6.9 GWh. It will be built in accordance with CATL's "Lighthouse Factory" standards, relying on cutting-edge technologies such as AI, 5G, and digital twin, to produce high-quality battery products and accelerate the process of electric mobility and energy transition in Indonesia and around the world.

The battery ecosystem built by Brunp Recycling's Indonesia factory integrates key links from mineral resources to battery materials, then to battery manufacturing and recycling. It connects the entire life cycle industrial chain of batteries, which will inject strong momentum into Indonesia's green economic transformation toward net zero carbon emissions. Additionally, it will form a dual-driver of "technology and resources" and deepen industrial layout through Brunp's original Directional Recycling Technology(DRT). This will help Indonesia establish its first local renewable energy recycling system.
Meanwhile, the project will adopt advanced technologies and renewable energy to achieve ultra-low energy consumption, and realize the regeneration of high-value battery materials with a metal recovery rate of over 95%. After the full commissioning of the project, it is expected to produce 142,000 tons of nickel and 30,000 tons of cathode materials annually, and will have the capacity to handle approximately 20,000 tons of waste batteries. According to predictions from the Indonesian side, the project will also create 8,000 direct jobs and 35,000 indirect employment opportunities.
As the largest country in Southeast Asia, Indonesia is emerging as a new focal point for Chinese automakers to expand their presence in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The Indonesian government plans to produce approximately 600,000 electric vehicles by 2030. Meanwhile, Indonesia is also the world's largest nickel producer and the second-largest cobalt producer.
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated at the groundbreaking ceremony: "This is an extremely important and mutually beneficial cooperation, as well as a large-scale project with major breakthroughs. Through this project, we will be able to produce renewable and environmentally friendly energy that the whole world is pursuing."

The project integrates Indonesia's abundant nickel ore resources, internationally leading production technologies, and strong policy support. Through the powerful alliance of multiple parties, it lays a solid foundation for Indonesia to build an internationally competitive electric vehicle industrial ecosystem.
As subsequent production capacity is released and technological upgrading progresses, this project will also exert a profound impact on the competitive landscape of power batteries in Southeast Asia and even the world. Looking ahead, Brunp Recycling will continue to deepen its presence in the industry, build a stable regional supply chain, and contribute "circular strength" to the reshaping of the global green energy industry chain.
