In October, the traditional automobile industry continued to be sluggish, but new energy vehicles continued to maintain a growth rate of over 50%.
On November 9, the China Automobile Association announced the operation of China's automobile industry in October. The production and sales volume of automobiles in October was 2,334,500 and 2,380,100 respectively, a year-on-year decrease of 10.05% and 11.70% respectively, continuing the downward trend since July. In the first 10 months, the production and sales experienced negative growth for the first time this year.
In contrast to fuel vehicles, new energy vehicles have shown steady and rapid growth, especially new energy plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles. The sales growth rate in October reached 103%, and the sales growth rate in the first 10 months was as high as 155%.
In October, sales of new energy vehicles were 137,900, a year-on-year increase of 51.01%. The cumulative sales of new energy vehicles in the first 10 months was 860,100, an increase of 75.59% over the same period last year. Among them, the sales of pure electric vehicles were 652,600, a year-on-year increase of 62.69%; the sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles were 207,300, a year-on-year increase of 136.42%.
In terms of breakdown, sales of new energy passenger vehicles were 120,000, an increase of 76.9% year-on-year, of which 94,000 were pure electric passenger vehicles and 27,000 were plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles. Among them, plug-in hybrid passenger cars performed well. In October, the monthly sales of 27,000 units increased by 103.4%, and the sales volume in the first October reached 203,000 units, accounting for 27.21% of the total passenger car sales.
The sales of new energy commercial vehicles have dropped significantly. In October, the sales of new energy commercial vehicles were 18,000, a year-on-year decrease of 24.4%; among them, 18,000 were pure electric commercial vehicles, and the sales of plug-in hybrid commercial vehicles were 0. The cumulative sales of new energy commercial vehicles from January to October was 11.4 10,000 vehicles, an increase of 17.4% year-on-year.

According to data from the China Automobile Association, in October 2018, automobile production was 2,334,500 vehicles, a decrease of 0.92% month-on-month and 10.05% year-on-year; sales of 2,380,100 vehicles, a month-on-month decrease of 0.58%, and a year-on-year decrease of 11.70%.
Among them, the production of passenger cars was 2.022 million units, down 1.11% month-on-month and 10.01% year-on-year; sales of 2.0468 million units were down 0.66% month-on-month and 12.99% year-on-year. Commercial vehicle production was 332,300, a month-on-month increase of 0.26% and a year-on-year decrease of 10.30%; sales of 333,300 vehicles, a month-on-month decrease of 0.09%, and a year-on-year decrease of 2.83%.
From January to October, the production and sales of automobiles were 22,825,800 vehicles and 22,870,900 vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 0.39% and 0.06%. Among them, the production and sales of passenger vehicles were 19.352 million and 19.034 million, down 1.04% and 1.02% year-on-year; the production and sales of commercial vehicles were 3.475 million and 3.5670 million, up 3.39% and 5.47% year-on-year.
From January to October, automobile production and sales both fell year-on-year, marking the first negative growth this year. In this regard, Yao Jie, deputy secretary general of the China Automobile Association, said that the possibility of achieving positive growth throughout this year is very small. Carry out the spirit of supply-side reform, realize enterprise transformation through the market, and realize the survival of the fittest.
Shi Jianhua, deputy secretary-general of the China Automobile Association, also said that the long-term and average effects of preferential policies may be the same. The association does not advocate short-term stimulus policies. Maintaining a low-speed and steady growth may be more conducive to the healthy development of the automobile market.
2. Production and sales of passenger vehicles:
In October, among the main types of passenger vehicles, compared with the previous month, the production of SUVs and the sales of MPVs increased slightly, while the production and sales of other types decreased; and Compared with the same period of the previous year, the production and sales of the four major categories have all declined, and the decline in multi-purpose passenger vehicles (MPV) has been more pronounced.

5. Sales of automobile manufacturers:
In October, the top ten auto sales companies were: SAIC, Dongfeng, FAW, BAIC, GAC, Changan, Geely, Great Wall, Brilliance and Chery. Compared with the previous month, Great Wall's sales grew the fastest, with Dongfeng, BAIC, GAC and Geely increasing slightly, while the other five companies all declined. In October, the above ten companies sold a total of 2,149,900 vehicles, accounting for 90.29% of the total vehicle sales.
From January to October, the top ten companies in auto sales were SAIC, Dongfeng, FAW, BAIC, Changan, GAC, Geely, Great Wall, Brilliance and Chery. Compared with the same period of the previous year, Changan's sales volume declined rapidly, while Dongfeng and Great Wall declined slightly, while other companies had their own growth. Geely, Chery and Brilliance grew more significantly. From January to October, the above ten companies sold 20,395,800 vehicles, accounting for 89.18% of total vehicle sales.
From January to October, the top ten companies in terms of sales volume of Chinese brand cars are: SAIC, Geely, Changan, Dongfeng, BAIC, Great Wall, Chery, FAW, GAC and JAC. Compared with the same period of the previous year, Geely and SAIC’s sales have shown rapid double-digit growth, Chery and GAC’s growth rates have been slightly slower, and the other six companies have shown varying degrees of decline, with Dongfeng and BAIC’s declines being more pronounced. From January to October, the above ten companies sold a total of 9,376,300 vehicles, accounting for 81.44% of the total sales of Chinese brand vehicles.
